The 200 acres ranch is located in the northern part of Minnesota, in Koochiching County, near the city of Baudette, Lake of the Woods and the Rainy River. The ranch is at the end of a county road seven miles south of Clementson and borders State Forest on three sides with almost 2 million continuous acres. I posted aerial photos on your left and a location map below. The East Fork of the Rapid River runs through the length of the property. There is a fairly new, but unfinished home on the property, a barn and numerous outbuildings. The land is fenced and the rancher is running 30 head of cows on it right now. The taxes are less than $ 500 a year. The present owner also leases an additional 48 acres from the State. The rancher plants different grasses in his tree lined meadows to attract wildlife. He has placed movable hunting stands strategically along the edges of the meadows and has friends and family come over to hunt birds, deer and bear. There are sharp-tail and ruffed grouse, ducks and geese and of course lots of walleye to fish in the river.
The following presentation is from the Chamber of Commerce in Baudette: Minnesota is the top ruffed grouse-producing state in the U.S. No other state harvests as many ruffed grouse each fall or provides as much public hunting land containing ruffed grouse. The ruffed grouse is the state's number one upland game species in terms of birds harvested. At the peak, Minnesota's annual harvest often exceeds 1.2 million birds. The average annual harvest is 600,000 birds. The last 20 years, the sharp-tailed grouse index has been approximately seven to 11 birds counted per dancing ground. The white-tailed deer is Minnesota's most popular wildlife species. Each year, roughly 500,000 hunters harvest roughly 200,000. Deer are amazing creatures. They can run at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour and leap over an 8-foot-tall fence. Adult female white-tailed deer weigh about 145 pounds, males 170. The heaviest whitetail ever recorded in the United States was a 500-pound Minnesota buck. The black bear was originally found throughout Minnesota, but now occurs only here in the northern woodlands. The East Fork of the Rapid River is lined with Ash, Oak, Aspen, Birch, Balsam Fir and even some White Pine. Baudette, the Walleye Capital of the World, is located just south of Lake of the Woods on State Highways 11 and 172. It is also located near Zippel Bay State Park and Beltrami Island State Forest. Baudette is an attractive community in an area known for its year round fishing and many outdoor activities. One attraction in Baudette is Willie the Walleye. He turned 46 years old in 2005 and each June the City of Baudette celebrates his birthday. Walleye is the king of all Lake of the Woods fish and the Sauger is it's common cousin. Hundreds of thousands of anglers flock to Lake of the Woods to hunt down a trophy or take a limit home for a delicious meal. Walleye and sauger can be found just about anywhere on Lake of the Woods, but they move around from rocky reefs to the mud flats according to the season and weather conditions. Experienced anglers use a variety of presentations to capture their limit…but you can't go wrong using a spinner and minnow in the summer or a jig and minnow in the winter. Lake of the Woods has 65,000 miles of shoreline, 14,582 islands, it is 90 miles long, 55 miles wide and has some of the best fishing anywhere! The Clementson Resort on the Rainy River, next to the Clementson Rapids is just up the road from the ranch and they posted a handy fishing licensing chart. They also posted maps on their website. The "resort" consists of small log cabins by the river.
